Pensió Bellmirall
The anarchist painter Isidre Vicens (1918–2016) established this delightfully eccentric guesthouse next to El Call and the cathedral in the 1960s, and it remains a great-value base from which to explore the old city. The stone reception area has medieval trappings, while the furniture and fittings within are mid-century, with paintings by Vicens scattered around. The guest rooms vary in size, and some are tiny, but all feature exposed stone walls dating from the 14th century. A communal space offers self-serve tea and coffee, and there’s a lovely little courtyard garden where breakfast is served, included in the room rate.
