This park is Gothenburg's oasis of beauty and is, in fact, the most dramatic cultivated bit of nature in western Sweden. The botanical gardens were first opened to the public in 1923 and have been improved considerably over the years with better landscaping and more stunning plantings. Winding paths stretching for a few kilometers have been cut through the gardens, and you can stroll along at leisure, absorbing the beauty of nature at every turn. There are plants and landscape scenes from around the world, including a bamboo grove evoking Southeast Asia and a Japanese dale. In spring, the blooming Rhododendron Valley is one of the most stunning sights of Gothenburg. The splendid Rock Garden alone is worth the journey, featuring ponds, rugged rocks, cliffs, rivulets, and a cascade.
