Antiguo Convento San Francisco

This navy-blue structure was first built in 1529 and destroyed by pirate Henry Morgan in 1679 and again by William Walker in 1856 during his notorious sacking of the city. It has risen from the ashes several times and acted as a barracks, university, and now a fully restored museum. As well as being a beautiful building in its own right, with countless galleries and courtyards, it houses a remarkable collection of pre-Columbian statues with zoomorphic forms of birds and jaguars found on Zapatera Island.
