This historic 1720 building with a neoclassical facade is now a cultural space, housing exhibition rooms, a library, bookshop, cafe, and concert hall. It's open daily 7am to 6pm and is situated on the majestic, pillar-lined walkway that's called La Plazuela de los Leones. This walkway runs along the northeastern corner of the city's epicenter -- Parque Colón (also known as Parque Central). Along the pedestrian street, you'll find mounted cannons, as this was where Henry Morgan based himself when he ransacked the city. It is also the site of William Walker's inauguration as president, a favor he returned by burning it to the ground. It has now been rebuilt and restored, and makes for a fascinating wander through the city's turbulent history.
