This $63-million facility replaced the older Greenville Memorial Auditorium as the city's venue for Broadway touring shows, rock concerts, rodeos, basketball, ice shows, and art exhibits. It's also the home of the city's new minor-league hockey team, the Greenville Grrrowls. Carrying the corporate name of a local grocery chain, the arena opened in September 1998, with Janet Jackson and Pearl Jam filling the 16,000-seat arena to capacity.
