Parador Guánica 1929, a former plantation residence, sits in the midst of the ruins of an old sugar mill, with huge shade trees and plantation homes dotting the surrounding hillside. A lovely wraparound verandah on both of its two levels leads to the modern, simple but colorfully decorated rooms. The staff is young and eager to please, and the hotel is a great value, especially for families (who will appreciate the large pool area). Breakfast and other meals are served on the downstairs side veranda, with the rest given over to the glories of just hanging out. A really charming property in a pretty part of Puerto Rico that still feels part of a lost era.
