Small by world standards but surprisingly well maintained and attended, the Aurora Zoo is a nice spot to pose for pictures with the wild Guatemalan animals you might not have seen on your journey through the country. Dating back to 1924, the zoo has one of the most impressive collections of animal life in Central America, and features giraffes, hippos, water buffaloes, leopards, and lions. Education, conservation, and rehabilitation are the zoo's mission, and they carry it out well. The park is divided into four sections: the African savanna, the Tropics, Asia, and the petting zoo. Various lectures and programs for children are held daily.
