Lodging rates are at their highest in Gunnison in summer and at Christmas. You'll usually find the lowest rates in late winter and early spring. Major chain and franchise motels that provide reasonably priced lodging in Gunnison include the Comfort Inn, 911 N. Main St. (tel. 800/424-6423 or 970/642-1000), with rates of $80 to $120 double in summer and $70 to $100 at other times; and Quality Inn, 400 E. Tomichi Ave. (tel. 800/424-6423 or 970/641-1237), with double rates from $75 to $149 in summer and $55 to $89 at other times. Room tax adds just over 11% to lodging bills.
Camping -- In addition to the campgrounds in Curecanti National Recreation Area , you'll find dozens of sites scattered throughout the Gunnison National Forest and lands administered by the Bureau of Land Management (tel. 970/641-0471). Wildwood Resort also offers RV sites.
