Planning a trip to Gyantse

Getting There

At the time of writing, the only way for foreigners to get to Gyantse was in a private vehicle with a guide. The journey from Lhasa via stunning Yam Drok Lake (4488m/14,724ft.) takes about 6 hours. Just after the lake you can break for a meal in the small town of Namgartse. Getting to and from Shigatse, the journey is 2 hours.

Banks, Foreign Exchange & ATMs -- None available.

Internet Access -- The fastest connection is at the 24-hr. Damuzhi Wangba, just across the road and east a little from the Gyantse Hotel. They charge ¥8 per hour.

Post Office -- The main post office (9:30am-noon and 3:30-6pm) is on Weiguo Lu, a few minutes walk east from the intersection with Yingxiong Lu.
