The Lord Nelson Hotel & Suites
A landmark hotel in the heart of Halifax, you can’t beat the location at South Park Street and Spring Garden Road, across the street from the idyllic Halifax Public Gardens (p. ###), a block away from Citadel Hill and in a major shopping area. As is often the case with older hotels, some of the rooms are very small; try to avoid the ones the hotel categorizes as “petite”. The property has undergone major renovations in recent years while retaining its charm, with the photography of W.R. MacAskill, a legendary photographer from Cape Breton, still hanging on the walls and excellent mattresses on the beds. Its onsite restaurant, The Arms, is also very good. Tip: If you’ll have a car with you, look into the hotel’s packages, some of which reduce parking costs (which are normally a steep C$28 per night).
