Ledyard Canoe Club
One idyllic way to spend a lazy afternoon in Hanover is by drifting along the Connecticut River in a canoe -- assuming you know how to paddle one safely, that is. Dartmouth's historic boating club is just downhill from the campus at the river's bank. While much of the club's focus is on competitive racing, it's also a place where travelers can rent a boat for a few hours and explore the tree-lined river. (Instruction is also available.) Life jackets must be carried at all times, and worn by children and non-swimmers. The club is open daily from spring through mid-October.
