Knopwood’s Retreat

Opened in 1829 as a tavern and a brothel frequented by whalers, Knopwood’s Retreat is still a raucous place to be on Friday and Saturday evenings, when crowds cram the historic interior and spill out onto the streets. The menu changes daily and is written up on a blackboard, and on Saturdays there are brunch offerings, perfect if you are heading to the Salamanca markets, right outside the door.
