The Saltry Restaurant's location, in an artists colony a 30-minute boatride across the water from Homer (the views are extraordinary from the water and from the restaurant) would make it a delight even without good food. But the grilled fish and whole-grain bread here are terrific. Those who don't want fish can order buffalo—beef isn't on the menu. The boat leaves Homer twice an evening, giving diners just enough time to eat a leisurely dinner and to soak up the village ambience (frankly, we recommend the second seating so that you don't feel rushed; there are only two seatings each night). Reserve at the booking office at the Homer Spit at least 2 days ahead, as the Saltry does sell out in season.
