Golf in Honduras

There are now several golf courses operating in Honduras, though many are small and private. The oldest is the 9-hole Villa Elena Country Club (tel. 504/2224-0400), 9km (5 1/2 miles) north of Tegucigalpa on the road to San Pedro Sula. The best course by far is the Pete Dye-designed Black Pearl Golf Club (tel. 504/3318-2146; www.blackpearlgolf.com), Roatán's first course. The 18-hole, par-72 resort course measures 7,057 yards and is located at the Pristine Bay resort. Near Tela, the Los Micos Beach & Golf Resort, an 18-hole Gary Player-designed course, should be operating by 2012.
