The Hong Kong Philharmonic, founded in 1975, is the city's largest (Western-style) orchestra. It performs regularly from September to July and at other scheduled events throughout the year, such as providing live accompaniment to the Hong Kong Ballet. Its conductor is Edo de Waart; guest conductors and soloists appear during the concert season. In addition to Western classical pieces, its repertoire is enriched by works commissioned from Chinese composers. Performance are held at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre and occasionally at City Hall.
