This long-running, family owned boutique hotel occupies a historic 12-story building in the heart of the Theater District. The Lancaster draws lovers of the arts—Jones Hall, Wortham Center, Alley Theatre, and Bayou Place are all within walking distance—but it makes a strong play for business travelers as well. Guest rooms have received a much-needed makeover; gone are the old-fashioned landscape paintings, dated color schemes, and floral drapes and upholstery. Rooms now feature more modern, muted tones, plus poster or sleigh beds and spacious bathrooms outfitted in marble and brass. The hotel's restaurant and bar, the Bistro, is a popular destination for American cuisine.
