There's no better small music venue in Houston than Fitzgerald's. Since 1977, the Fitz has hosted such names as James Brown, The Ramones, ZZ Top, and R.E.M. Legend has it that Stevie Ray Vaughn's "The House is a Rockin'" was inspired by his numerous Fitzgerald's appearances, and it sounds about right—the wooden, two-story structure, built in 1918 as a Polish dance hall, still shakes with loud, intimate performances nearly every night of the week. Up-and-coming regional bands share the schedule with nationally touring artists like M.Ward, Old 97s and Parquet Courts. All shows are all ages.
