This longtime local favorite showcases inventive Latin American plates in a lively, contemporary setting. The signature steak, the restaurant's namesake, is a center-cut beef tenderloin topped with piquant green chimichurri sauce, and more than lives up to the hype. There's also a standout plantain-encrusted chicken over black bean sauce, as well as a variety of tasty empanadas and ceviches to kick things off. While nibbling on the free fried plantain chips, consider something off the cocktail menu—a mojito maybe, or a pisco sour. Pace yourself for a finish strong—the tres leches cake is one of the best dessert dishes in the city. The River Oaks location is the original, but there are three other Churrascos in town: Westchase (713/952-1988; 975 Westheimer), Sugar Land (832/532-5300; 1520 Lake Pointe Parkway, Suite 500), and a new outpost in Memorial City (713/231-1352; 947 N. Gessner, Suite B29), the latter a sleek, 8,400-square-foot space with an open kitchen.
