Ibiza Catedral
Provided for in city plans after the 1235 overthrow of the Moors, this Catalan Gothic church was begun in the 14th century on a hilltop, the highest point within the old-city walls and where Punic temples and a Moorish mosque previously existed. The cathedral is marked by a soaring Gothic belltower, though 18th-century modifications added Baroque elements to the interior. The cathedral museum contains important works of Gothic religious art, including a 14th-century silver monstrance and paintings by Valentí Monteliu and Francesc Cornés.
