Babysitters -- For an English-speaking babysitter, most hotel concierges will make arrangements for you.
Consulates -- Visitors from the U.S., Canada, New Zealand, and Australia have to use their respective consulates in Vienna. British citizens can go to the British Consulate, Kaiser Jägerstrasse 1, Top B9 (tel. 0512/588320), open Monday to Friday 9am to noon.
Currency Exchange -- You can exchange money at any of the dozens of banks that line Innsbruck's commercial areas. Banks are usually open Monday to Thursday 7:45am to 12:30pm and 2:30 to 4pm, and Friday 7:45am to 3pm. There are also exchange facilities at Innsbruck's tourist office and at the Hauptbahnhof. The branch at the Hauptbahnhof maintains automated currency exchange facilities available 24 hours a day. They accept American dollars in denominations of $20, $50, and $100.
Dentists & Doctors -- Check with the tourist office for a list of private English-speaking dentists and doctors, or contact the University Clinic, Anichstrasse 35 (tel. 0512/504).
Drugstores -- St.-Anna Apotheke, Maria-Theresien-Strasse 4 (tel. 0512/585847), is open Monday to Friday 8am to 12:30pm and 2:30 to 6pm, and Saturday 8am to noon. As required by law, the pharmacy posts addresses of other pharmacies open on weekends or at night.
Emergencies -- Call tel. 133 for the police, 122 for the fire department, or 144 for an ambulance.
Hospitals -- Try the University Clinic, Anichstrasse 35 (tel. 0512/504).
Luggage Storage & Lockers -- At the Hauptbahnhof, on Südtirolerplatz (tel. 0512/930002409), you can rent small lockers for 2.50€, or larger ones for 3.50€, for 48 hours.
Police -- Call tel. 133 for the police.
Post Offices -- The Hauptpostamt (Central Post Office), Maximilianstrasse 2 (tel. 0512/5000), is open daily from 8am to 9pm. The post office at the Hauptbahnhof, Bruneckstrasse 1-3 (tel. 0512/5000), is open Monday to Saturday 6:30am to 9pm.
Safety -- Innsbruck has a low crime rate, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't take the usual precautions.
Taxes -- Innsbruck levies no special city taxes other than the value-added tax imposed on all goods and services in Austria.
