The Lone Star, Dee and Leet streets (tel. 03/214-6225), draws a crowd of mixed ages. Speight's Ale House, 38 Dee St. (tel. 03/214-5333; www.speightsalehouseinv.co.nz), is a good spot to try Dunedin-brewed ales. It's always lively, especially during sports matches; and you can get a hearty meal here too. Level One Bar, Kelvin Hotel, Kelvin and Esk streets (tel. 03/218-2829; www.kelvinhotel.co.nz), is a little more upmarket and definitely quieter. Suffice to say, Invercargill is not a place you seek out for its pulsating night life.
