A fire in 1870 destroyed buildings in the citadel, including the seraglio. A military hospital was built in its place and then demolished to build the 1958 Royal Pavillion based on plans of local mansions. The pavilion was restored for a museum in 1995 and contains church icons, paintings, and frescoes, including a notable icon of Christ in Judgment surrounded by all the saints, and a fresco of the Judas Kiss.
