The staff at this popular hotel are among the island’s most endearing characters. Kind and amiable Nacho, the general manager, knows just about everybody and everything on the island. Miguel, the bartender, inducts newcomers with a liquor-drenched flaming Mayan Sacrifice cocktail sure to encourage friendship among all. Omar handles tours, vehicle rentals, and general info with cheery aplomb. The location is ideal, at the west end of Medina across from the waterfront malecón. Playa Norte is a block west and the Centro’s restaurants a couple of blocks north. Three buildings with several types of rooms frame a restaurant, bar, lawns, and pool area. All rooms have individual a/c units, ceiling fans, and patios or balconies. The newest are the best, of course, and have mini-fridges. Mini suites have king beds and sofas, fridges, and shower/bath combos. Most rooms have two double beds—ask for a king in advance. Quality and maintenance varies, but the location and room rates make this a good choice if you want to be close to, but not in the middle of, the action. Rates change six times during the years, based on holidays, seasons, and demand.
