The smell of garlic and tomatoes wafts from Mamma Rosa, one of the island's best choices for Italian food. And sometimes the fare gets downright creative: the Diamante pizza topped with lobster is so good we've toasted it with champagne (there's also a wide range of good Italian reds on tap). Risotto is another specialty; choices include a vegetarian primavera version with broccoli and calabacitas (sautéed zucchini, squash, and garlic). And if you want to eat cheap, the portion of meat lasagna is so large you can easily order one salad and one entrée to share between two (or three!). The cool interior is a welcome escape on sultry summer evenings, even if you just stop by for a glass of wine and crispy fried calamari.
