Everybody’s happy at this island institution where you just might run into friends from previous visits. I can’t possibly visit Isla without stopping by at least once, shunning the sidewalk tables for one in the interior courtyard with its twinkling white lights and friendly waiters rushing about. My favorite meal starts with Rolandi’s signature puffy garlic bread, moves on to a simply perfect caprese salad followed by spinach cannelloni. I sometimes venture much further afield to veal scaloppini or shrimp sautéed with garlic and guajillo chilies, and will share a Margarita pizza from the wood-burning oven with friends. But I always end with the homemade coconut ice cream drenched with Kahlua—a blend of flavors that brings me back to my first island visit decades ago.
