MOCA Jacksonville
This museum of contemporary art is one of the Southeast’s largest, housed in the renovated Western Union Telegraph Building. It also happens to be the second oldest contemporary art museum in the country, having turned 100 in 2024 (the Phillips Collection in Washington, D.C. is the oldest). Its permanent collection of over 1,000 works is like a Who’s Who of contemporary art, and includes seminal pieces by Joan Mitchell, Frank Stella, Keith Haring, Malcolm Morley, Jasper Johns, Richard Serra, Robert Mapplethorpe, and Nam June Paik, among others. It also hosts noteworthy touring exhibitions. Admission is free on Florida Blue Museum Nights, when from 5 to 9pm the first and third Wednesday of the month, there’s special programming, a bar, and happy hour specials.
