Of the many churches worth visiting in Jaén, La Magdalena is the oldest and most interesting. This Gothic church was once an Arab mosque. The minaret of the former mosque is now the bell tower of the church. If you wander to the back of the church, you can see a courtyard that was used by Arab worshipers for ritualized ablutions. In the cloisters are several tombstones from the era of the Roman occupation of Andalusia.
