South of Jasper, off Highway 93, lies Canada's longest and highest aerial tramway tour, Jasper Tramway. It's the fastest and easiest way to get to the high alpine environment. Starting at the foot of Whistler's Mountain, each car takes 30 passengers and hoists them 2km (1 1/4 miles) up to the peak (2,220m/7,283 ft.) -- a beautiful, scenic midair ride. But you won't want to go back down right away. At the summit, you'll step out into an alpine tundra picnic area carpeted with mountain grass. Views of the Athabasca and Miette valleys are stunning. You can hike 45 minutes uphill to the summit of Whistler's Mountain. Dress warmly and bring good shoes. Combo tickets that include meals at the upper terminal's Treeline Restaurant are available.
