Gwaneumsa
Located on the north side of Hallasan, just east of the Gwaneumsa campsite, is this small temple. One of many smaller temples popping up on the island, the current building was erected in 1969 in an attempt to revive Buddhism, which was abolished from the island during the Joseon Dynasty, in the 15th century. The major temple on the island went into a steady decline and closed down for good in 1653, leaving only a handful of hermitages on the island. The original temple at this site, which was destroyed in a fire, was built in 1909. There is no direct bus here, but the temple is located about a kilometer from the park's north entrance.
