Yeongoksa
The largest temple in the national park, Yeongoksa lies in the Piagol valley of Jirisan. Like its neighbor Hwaeomsa, the temple has a rich history and is surrounded by picturesque scenery. The first temple built in Jirisan, it was founded by Yeongijosa in 543 (during the fourth year of the Shilla King Jinheung). Like most temples, it was destroyed during the Imjin Waeran, but was rebuilt in 1627. Unfortunately, it didn't escape the Korean war unscathed, either, so it was rebuilt in 1981.
