Little Moir’s Food Shack
Truly gourmet food in a strip mall? That’s the trick Chef Mike “Little” Moir pulls off. Because the restaurant has its own wholesale and retail fishing license, they control all the fish coming onto your plate, which ensures it is the freshest in town. Dishes are also often inventive, like recent specials of panko fried oysters with spicy fruit, onions, gorgonzola, and sambal aioli; and charred octopus with butternut puree, and crispy wontons. On the regular menu, starters and shared bites include everything from Bao buns and fried Brussels sprouts to warm rock shrimp bruschetta. We’re huge fans of the blackened fish wrap with mango, avocado, cotija cheese, and Mexican street corn salsa. And Stoner’s Delight dessert is a hoot: a combo of Nutella, Reese’s peanut butter cups and marshmallows. Moir also owns two other worthy local spots: Leftovers Café, 451 University Blvd. (tel. 561/627-6030), another tiny, adorable spot with live music and menu faves from Food Shack; and Hibiscus StreEATery, 326 Hibiscus St. (tel. 561/529-3769), known for its seafood market, brisket grilled cheese, and lobster mac and cheese.
