Planning a trip to Kalmar

Getting There

By Plane -- Kalmar Airport (tel. 0480/45-90-00; www.kalmarairport.se) receives two to four daily 50-minute flights from Stockholm. The airport is 5km (3 miles) west of the town center. The Flygbuss (www.kalmarflyg.se) makes the 10-minute drive to the center of Kalmar for a per-person price of 50SEK ($10/£5). Buses are timed to depart with the arrivals of flights at the airport.

By Train -- Seven trains a day make the 6 1/2-hour run between Stockholm and Kalmar. Eight daily trains arrive from Malmö, taking 3 hours and 20 minutes. Both the train and bus stations lie in the center of town. Call tel. 771/75-75-75.

By Bus -- Three to seven buses a day make the 7-hour trip from Stockholm. From Gothenburg, there is one bus on both Friday and Saturday, taking 6 hours. For information, call tel. 0200/21-82-18 (within Sweden only).

By Car -- From Stockholm, take E66 south.

Visitor Information

The Kalmar Tourist Office, Turism I Kalmarbygåden, is located at Ölandskajen 9 (P.O. Box 23), 391 20 Kalmar (tel. 0480/41-77-00; www.kalmar.se/turism), near the railway station right in the town center. The office is open June 1 to July 27 and August 16 to August 31 Monday to Friday 9am to 7pm, and Saturday and Sunday 10am to 4pm; July 28 to August 15 Monday to Friday 9am to 9pm, and Saturday and Sunday 10am to 5pm; September to May Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
