Special Events

Lövmarknad, on the day before Midsummer's Eve, is one of the liveliest and most attended events on the southern coast of Sweden. It takes place on the Stortorget, the main square of Karlskrona. During the celebration, Swedes decorate their houses, churches, and other structures with flowers, and raise a maypole. All members of the community dance around the maypole until late in the evening. Dancing to traditional music, drinking, and dining, including the eating of the first potatoes of the year, highlight the festivities. Contact the tourist office, above, for more information.
