This quarter-mile-long swath of golden sand may seem like a private beach, given all the lounge chairs on its border with the Kauai Marriott Resort, which towers behind. But there’s generally plenty of room to find your own space to sunbathe, while the jetty stretching across much of Kalapaki Bay offers a protected place to swim or paddle; body-surfing and surfing are also possible at a small break. The view of the mossy-green Haupu Ridge rising out of Nawiliwili Bay is entrancing, as is watching massive cruise ships and Matson barges angle their way in and out of the nearby harbor. The water is a little murkier here, due to stream runoff. Facilities include restrooms and showers, with numerous shops and restaurants within a short walk.
