Part of the family oasis of 58-acre Lydgate Park ★ on the south side of the Wailua River mouth, Lydgate Beach has two rock-walled ponds that create the safest swimming and best snorkeling on the East Side—unless storms have pushed branches and other debris into the pond, which can take several days to clear. Families also gravitate here for the immense wooden play structure known as the Kamalani Playground and access to a 2.5-mile stretch of the Ke Ala Hele Makalae coastal path, suitable for strollers and bikes. Facilities include a pavilion, restrooms, outdoor showers, picnic tables, barbecue grills, lifeguards, campsites, and parking.
