This 10-acre beachfront property is great for families: It’s next to the protected swimming/snorkeling ponds of Lydgate Beach, the fanciful Kamalani Playground, and other park facilities, with an educational element added by the historic Hawaiian sites by the Wailua River. With tropical decor that includes Hawaiian quilt–print comforters and pineapple lamps, the larger-than-average rooms are unfortunately a little shabby around the edges—one reason the prices may be relatively low. By the time you read this, however, the management-promised “upgrades” should be completed throughout; currently, the north Maile wing appears to have the most updated units. Note: All rooms have mini-fridges, while junior suites and cottages also have microwaves; cottages are the only units with lanais (patios) and are closest to Kamalani Playground.
