Although his restaurant is hidden inside the nondescript Kauai Coast Resort at the Beachboy, off the main highway in Kapaa, chef/owner Ron Miller has inspired diners to find their way here in droves since 2002. The lure: a hearty menu that’s virtually all locally sourced—from Kauai whenever possible, and other islands when not—as well as expertly prepared and presented. Four to five seafood specials, incorporating local produce, are offered nightly; try the coffee-spiced candied ahi, or the hebi (short-billed spearfish) when available. The mushroom meatloaf also packs a savory punch, thanks to grass-fed beef and Big Island mushrooms. Value-conscious diners should try the $32 five-course tasting menu ($50 with wine pairings) offered from 5 to 5:45pm. Reservations are strongly recommended, especially for oceanview seating; the less-scenic lobby bar has nightly music. Note: The gluten-free menu includes variants of the five-course tasting menus.
