Foodies will want to check out chef Jean-Marie Josselin’s triumphant return to Kapaa, in a strip mall not unlike the one where he first gained renown years ago with A Pacific Cafe. A Hawaii Regional Cuisine co-founder and six-time nominee for a James Beard Foundation Award, Josselin’s latest victory is JO2, an island-sourced, “natural cuisine” restaurant with Asian-influenced dishes prepared using classic French techniques. The tiny but chic dining room has a neutral palette that makes the artful presentations of brightly hued greens, sauces, and glazes pop. Among the small plates, try the lamb dumpling or organic tomato sampler; for larger dishes, seared Hokkaido scallops or the locally caught blackened opah; don’t skip the yuzu lemon cheesecake. The early-bird, three-course prix fixe is a bargain at $35.
