Planning a trip to Kazimierz Dolny

Kazimierz Dolny is a little off the beaten track, but with some advance planning, it's not that hard to get to. There's regular bus and minibus services that make the 2-hour trip from Lublin several times a day; there are also decent daily bus and minibus connections to Warsaw (3 hr.). There's no train station in Kazimierz Dolny, but the neighboring town of Puawy has excellent train connections from Warsaw and Lublin, and you can connect to Kazimierz Dolny via local bus (nos. 12 and 14). By car, it's an easy 2-hour drive from Lublin. Once in Kazimierz Dolny, follow the signs to the center. The center of town is closed to motor vehicles, but there are plenty of paid parking lots where you can leave the car.

Visitor Information

Kazimierz Dolny's small tourist information office, PTTK Biuro Obsugi Ruchu Turystycznego (Rynek 27; tel. 81/881-00-46; www.kazimierzdolny.pl; Mon-Fri 8am-4pm, Sat and Sun 10am-2:30pm), is situated in the center of town on a corner of the main square. The English-speaking staff will help you sort out hotel and restaurant choices, as well as transportation options. They also stock lots of brochures and several good maps, including a free hiking and biking map of the area called "Kazimierz Dolny i okolice."

Getting Around

Walking is really the only option to see the town center, which is small and clustered around a compact town square, the Rynek. Walk or take a taxi to more far-flung destinations. In summer, you can rent bikes, though the terrain is hilly, and cycling can be challenging. Check with the tourist information office for rental agencies.
