Many guests stay at Kitzbühel on the half-board plan. It's also fashionable to dine around, checking out the action at the various hotels. With one or two exceptions, most notably the Wirtshaws Uterberger-Stuben, all the best restaurants are in hotels.

A Cafe: The Hottest Rendezvous Spot

Even before night falls, people make a mad dash for a seat at Café Praxmair, Vorderstadt 17 (tel. 05356/62646). One of the most famous pastry shops in Austria, it's known for its Florentine cookies. Later in the evening, the Praxmair Keller offers the town's most permissive nightlife. It remains open all night, summer and winter. If it's before 5 o'clock, the item to order is hot chocolate with a "top hat" of whipped cream. Coffee costs from 3€ ($4.80); pastries go for 2.50€ to 3.25€ ($4-$5.20). The cafe is open daily from 10am to 1am; the cellar bar is open daily from 10pm to dawn.
