The Performing Arts

The Rheinische Philharmonie Orchestra performs in the Rhein-Mosel-Halle, Schlossstrasse 35 (tel. 0261/300160; www.rheinische-philharmonie.de; bus: 9 or 10), which also hosts other performances. Tickets cost 15€ to 60€. Call for listings, dates, and prices of other performances. The Stadttheater (City Theater), housed in the Grossehaus, Dinehartplatz (tel. 0261/1292804; www.theater-koblenz.de; bus: 9 or 10), stages dramas, comedies, and musicals (in German) September to June. The box office is open daily 9am to noon. Tickets are 20€ to 55€, but can be higher depending on the event.

Bars

A pub-oriented crowd, mostly under 40, hangs out late at night at the previously recommended Palais, Firmungstrasse 2, Am Görresplaz (tel. 0261/1005833; www.palais-koblenz.de), before heading for one of the many pubs on Florinsmarkt for a nightcap. Club Abaco (same phone), in the basement of this building, attracts a mostly 20-ish crowd to dance to the music provided by a live DJ. The club is open Thursday to Saturday from 9pm to 4am, charging a cover that ranges from 5€ to 15€.

At Irish Pub Koblenz, Burgstrasse 7 (tel. 0261/9737797; www.irishpubkoblenz.de; bus: 1), copious amounts of Guinness, Kilkenny, hard cider, and German beers are served as accompaniment to everything from traditional Gaelic songs to progressive rock 'n' roll. Hours are Monday to Thursday 4pm to 1am, Friday 4pm to 2am, Saturday 1pm to 2am, and Sunday 1pm to 1am.
