Mango Guesthouse
This unique guesthouse is on the east coast, in an area that was once a hub of Chinese mercantile trade. The studio rooms and two- and three-bedroom villas here are historic Thai fishermen’s homes built on stilts over the sea, though not all rooms have air-con. The solid post and beam structures feature modern touches of Chinese décor (it is rumored to have once been an opium den), with spectacular views from private seafront patios. Downstairs, there’s the Mango Bistro for eats, and occasional parties with international DJs.
