You won’t feel like you’re in Thailand at this swish resort: the décor has more of a New York City or Stockholm vibe, with large blond wood planks on the walls, bare hanging Edison bulbs for lighting (in the restaurant), and a color scheme that doesn’t stray far from white, gray and black.  It’s all highly chic if a bit too “international” for our tastes. That being said the beachfront villas, some with private pools, have fantastic ocean views from the four-poster beds (and are well priced compared with other area hotels). Serving Thai and Western choices, the restaurant overlooks the pool and ocean; in the bar area there are plush beanbag chairs, ideal for taking in the sunset with a cocktail. North of giddy Chaweng, Casa de Mar is close enough to walk to its bars and restaurants.
