Within the Old Town walls, this outstanding hotel (opened in 2009) is a member of Relais & Châteaux. Comprised of part of the 17th-century Bishop’s Palace and a cluster of medieval cottages, it has just five residences (sleeping two to six people), each one themed after a country related to Marco Polo’s travels (Arabia, Ceylon, India, China, and Venice are the options). Each residence has self-catering facilities and sensual bathrooms, some with freestanding tubs next to the bed. Besides the highly personalized service, you can enjoy the LD’s gourmet restaurant and wine bar, two hotel boats available for private charter (with skipper), and a small spa with a sauna, which employs two ladies from Thailand to give massages.
