The most prestigious concert venue in Krakow this ornate, fin-de-siècle building, at the northern end of Szpitalna, stages classical music, dance, and theater productions. It is most famous for having been the venue where Stanisƚaw Wyspiański’s seminal Wesele was premiered. The recent home of Krakow Opera while a new venue was being built on nearby Ulica Lubicz, the theater is named after the Polish dramatist and Romantic poet who died in exile in Paris in 1849. In the northwest corner of the Planty, the other side of the Barbican, is a monument to one of Sƚowacki’s heroines, Lilla Weneda. Concertgoers today can enjoy a pre-show drink at the stylish Café Trema downstairs.
