Unlike some of the dreary hamlets -- mere refueling stops -- we've passed through, Kvikkjokk is one of Lapland's most beautiful resorts. (It was once a silver ore mining center way back in the 1600s.) But the real reason visitors flock here is that it is the gateway to the Sarek National Park , the largest wilderness area in Europe and the most evocative of the Swedish highlands.
This is the end of Route 805, which has taken us north to this remote wilderness. You'll have company at the end: Kvikkjokk is home to the Nordic bear, the lynx, the wolverine, and the Swedish golden eagle.
