The Tifakara pulls off the neat trick of giving the impression of being deep in the rainforest, while allowing guests to easily walk into the heart of La Fortuna (it’s just on the outskirts of town, on the road to the waterfall). Visitors stay (mostly) in tiny, but chicly streamlined modular bungalows, with excellent bedding and lots of wood. Little extras abound: day beds hanging from trees, riverside yoga sessions, in-room spa treatments, superb included breakfasts, on-site birding and frog tours, and more. The best rooms are the Riverside Deluxe Bungalows, which have small patios with private hot tubs and forest views. Note: If you suffer from allergies, know that the resort has purposefully chosen allergen-free building materials, linens and furnishings, so this could be a good choice for you.
