A low-key, somewhat dated small resort and nature lodge, Tilajari is on the banks of the San Carlos River, making it a wonderful place for bird-watching and wildlife viewing. The river is home to crocodiles, lizards, turtles, and a great variety of bird species. Oversized rooms with forest-green walls, tile floors, and wood ceilings are found in a row of two-story buildings that run parallel to the water, and most have a private patio or balcony with a river view. Popular with tour groups and Costa Rican families, Tilajari has extensive facilities, including tennis courts, soccer fields, game rooms, an orchid garden, a butterfly garden, and a medicinal herb garden. The hotel lies about 35 minutes from La Fortuna and the Arenal Volcano, but also provides good access to attractions in Aguas Zarcas.
