Don Rufino
Don Rufino is the semiofficial social center of town, with a popular open-air bar overlooking the main street. The decor is rustic, but the menu has gradually been moving into creative territory, sometimes merging the country’s biodiversity with Asian and Mediterranean flair. Try the pejibaye dumplings stuffed with braised short ribs or the al pastor octopus with yuca purée. The drink program is the best around, with original cocktails from bartenders who know their craft, plus a nicely curated artisinal beer and wine list. Prices are on the high end for town, but well below prices in hotel restaurants, and with much better quality.
