Near the bus stop a block away from the main road, the open-air Soda La Hormiga serves tasty, loaded gallos, Costa Rica’s version of the taco, as well as hearty casados and plates of rice and beans with a choice of protein. Pay special attention to their list of fruit drinks, including the rare chan, a chía like seed that turns red, Jello-like, and sweet when soaked. Service can be slow, though for the price and quality it’s easy to overlook.
